Walking away today
Cool breeze stings my face
The anger sets in
It”s not fair that it”s you lying there

Kindness pours from your every move
Every thought

Every word
You softly  ask, “Is there hope?”
As if you haven”t the right to ask at all
I want to wrap you in blankets of love
Shield you from the days to come
Tears brim then flow
As memories of what we had and what we have

Somewhere in between I stake my anger
I don”t want this lesson

Not yet
“Please stay”
As if I haven”t the right to ask
Let”s give it another 25 years or so
But the storm clouds obscure my view
Leaving me cold, angry, and scared
Like you
