No matter what motivates you, wanting to run a 5k marathon is definitely a feat. You might think it’s totally hopeless to try to do so, especially if you are currently a couch potato or generally not very active. But, even if you have never ran before, the Couch to 5K program says it can get you running in just 9 weeks.
That’s right, in just over two months, you could be ready for your very first (and hopefully not last) 5K run. The program promises that just about anyone will be able to run 5 kilometers or 30 minutes by the end of the 9-week program. How difficult the program is to complete all depends on your current level of fitness and how active you already are.
If you have already been jogging, running, or even walking on a regular basis for at least a month, you’ll find it easier to slide into the Couch to 5K program. That’s because the muscles you’ll use for running are already used to being worked, at least to some degree. But, even a person living a sedentary lifestyle could reasonably start the program and, at the very least, see major progress in their physical fitness and ability in the coming 9 weeks.
The program is great at gradually helping you go from inactive to a healthy mover. Now, if you find yourself to be highly sedentary, easily winded, and/or suffering from mobility issues, keep in mind that the Couch to 5K program and goal might be too much for you at this time. That’s why you should always consult your physician. They’ll be able to talk to you, look at your health and lifestyle, and suggest what’s going to be suitable.
With this advice, you will be able to get more active gradually. While it might take you more than 9 weeks in such circumstances, you can definitely aspire to be a successful 5K runner. It just takes commitment.
