Consulting and life coaching are growing trends in
our culture. Many people are making 6 figure salaries providing their
knowledge on various subjects and people are lining up to give their money
to someone to tell them what they need to do.

How would you like to have a personal consultant who knows everything.
He never gives you counsel that is wrong. He always has your best interest
at heart. He always leads you to do things that will land you right in the
middle of God’s favor. He loves to point people to Jesus. He knows the
Word of God inside out. He is surrounded by love, joy, peace, and did I
mention that He is available for you to consult with 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week. How much is His consulting fee? Why its free for the asking.

The two passages of Scripture above give us insight as to how the early
church went about making decisions and also what Jesus taught us the
Holy Spirit would do for us.

The early church leaders would get together, share their hearts, pray and
would reach a conclusion. They were able to say, “This seems good to the
Holy Spirit and us.” They relied upon the Holy Spirit to consult them. Of
course they used Scripture but they relied upon the Holy Spirit to help them
use it rightly.

Jesus clearly taught his apostles ( and through them, teaches us) that the
Holy Spirit would guide us into “all” truth and that He would tell us what
about the future. In other words, we are not left to make decisions about
our future or about what is true and right in a given situation. The Holy

Spirit is our consultant. He always acts in our best interest. Because it is
always in our best interest to know what God wants us to do and do it!
